Two builders allegedly kidnapped their business rival, killed him and buried his body along with his motorcycle in a seven-foot ditch in northeast Delhi’s Khadar area.
The accused, Manoj Kumar and Mehak Singh, were arrested on Friday while their associate, Satyanarayan Tyagi, is on the run, deputy commissioner of police (northeast) Ajit Kumar Singla said.
The duo, who police said were inspired by the Bollywood film Drishyam, destroyed the victim Mohammad Idrish’s phone and SIM card.
According to the police, Idrish (50) went missing on February 29 after which his son approached the police and lodged a missing complaint.
“Idrish’s phone was switched off. When we recorded the statements of his relatives and friends, we inferred that it could be a case of business rivalry,” a senior police officer said.
The police identified two of Idrish’s business rivals and detained them for questioning. The police put their phones on surveillance and accessed their call detail records.
During investigation it was found that Idrish had spoken to Manoj after which his phone went out of coverage area.
“During interrogation, the duo revealed that they in connivance with Satyanarayan Tyagi called Idrish for payment. When Idrish came to meet them, they picked up a fight with him and beat him up. After he died, they dug a pit, threw the body and the motorcycle inside and filled it with mud,” a senior police officer said.
A team is now on the lookout for Tyagi.
