URGE for quick fun can turn tragic.

This happened with two young constables in Delhi on Friday night when they were stabbed to death by a known baddie of the area.

Police claim they have already arrested the accused.

E Pandu Raj (22) and JC Solanki (23) — both posted in Tamil Nadu and had gone to Punjab for election duties — reached Delhi on Friday evening. They were planning to catch a train to Tamil Nadu on Saturday morning.

In a hurry to make the most of their stay in Delhi, the two first went to Connaught Place — one of Delhi’s most popular shopping centres. Later, they visited the GB Road — the city’s infamous red light district.

There they met Chawan Bala and had an argument with him.

“Solanki and Raj started beating Bala. The accused then took out a knife and stabbed Raj in the abdomen five times. Then he stabbed Solanki seven-times and fled the spot,” said a senior police officer not authorised to speak to the media.

A bystander called the police, who rushed them to the nearby Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital, where they were declared brought dead.

Police said Bala was arrested from his residence in the Ajmeri Gate area.

Recently, Bala was in jail for drug trafficking.
