Two men were arrested on charges of attempting to rape two juvenile siblings at a makeshift gymnasium in a park in west Delhi’s Vikaspuri on Monday morning, police said.
The siblings, who hail from Shimla in Himachal Pradesh, were in the Capital to attend their maternal grandmother’s funeral. "The incident was reported from a park in Vikaspuri's C block at 10am when the siblings, — a 10-year-old boy and his 11-year-old sister, went missing and didn't meet their parents at the exit gate like they were told," said V Renganathan, deputy commissioner of police (west).
The accused have been identified as Dhananjay, 30, who works as a guard at the park, and Rinku, 28, a cleaner at the ShivJugnu Gym. "Their parents' frantic search led them to a gym within the park's premises. They saw their son being held by Dhananjay, while Rinku was taking off their daughter's garments," said a senior police officer. "The parents raised a hue and cry that attracted passersby, who caught hold of the accused and handed them over to us," he said.
