Two deadly packages continue to threaten the Capital’s peace.

Eight bombs that either exploded or were defused in Delhi on Black Saturday were serially numbered. The live bomb defused at Children’s Park at India Gate had No 10 written on it.

This, security forces said, would mean there were actually two unexploded bombs still to be found.

The email circulated by Indian Mujahideen (IM) — the terror group responsible for the serial attacks — said there were nine bombs planted in the city.

Although a senior police official said “it could be a ploy to detract the investigators”, the security forces were taking no chances.

For, the Gujarat blasts have been a lesson in deception for the security agencies. Seventeen blasts rocked Ahmedabad on July 26. The hunt for the bombers led the investigators to the diamond city of Surat.

In Surat, the police found more than 40 live bombs across the city, some hanging from trees, some behind hoardings, others just planted at odd places, waiting to explode.

None of them could explode due to “technical glitches”.

Given the Gujarat experience, it seems the ‘missing’ bombs will keep Delhi on tenterhooks for a while.
