Two paramilitary forces personnel committed suicide within a few hours of each other on Thursday. Both the victims had recently returned from leave and rejoined duty.
In the first incident, a CISF constable, K.P. Muthu, allegedly shot himself with his service AK-47 while on duty at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi area on Thursday, three days after returning from a 21-day leave.
No suicide note was found.
CISF spokesperson Rohit Katiyar said, “He had gone home for his engagement. We are not sure if it happened or not. We are not sure why he took the extreme step.”
In the second case, an Assistant Commandant with the ITBP was found dead in his camp in Southeast Delhi on Thursday. The police said he had committed suicide after taking poison. The incident was reported from Sangam Vihar. The deceased has been identified as Ravi Khangwal. His body was found by a colleague. Khangwal was posted with the 22nd battalion of ITBP.
According to police, Khangwal had returned to the camp on Thursday morning after a five-day leave.
No suicide note was found. The body has been sent for postmortem.
