As many as 20 trains were cancelled and over 40 rescheduled today due to spillover effect of major fog-induced disruptions last week, even as more than 50 of them arrived in the Capital several hours behind schedule.
Though there was no fog, railways cancelled 20 trains, including Poorva, Kaifiyat and Taj Express and revised timings of 40 of them, including that of several Rajdhani trains, as corresponding trains were running inordinately late.
“The cancellations and rescheduling were due to the late schedules of corresponding trains, as prolonged foggy conditions during the past few weeks had left train schedule haywire,” a Northern Railway spokesperson said.
He said more than 50 trains also arrived in the Capital several hours behind schedule. These included the Chennai, Bhubaneswar, Kolkata and Sealdah Rajdhani trains, besides Poorva and Bandra-Nizamuddin Garib Rath express.
Railways had earlier cancelled about 20 trains till January 31 to cope with the worsening fog-induced situation.
According to an estimate, the Railways is losing Rs 2 to 3 crore daily due to cancellation and rescheduling of trains.
However, the spokesperson said normalcy in train services may return soon if the weather improves in the coming days.
