A 22-year-old Manipuri student was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his rented flat in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar on Thursday afternoon.
The student has been identified as Vihrill Shunni, a second-year student of English (Honours) at Sri Aurobindo College.
Police believe it to be a case of natural death though they are waiting for the victim’s autopsy report. Police suspect overdose of some medicine or drug because it has been learnt that Shunni partied with his friends at his flat till early Thursday morning. While some of his friends returned home and went to college later in the day, Shunni and his flatmate were asleep till noon.
Around 1 pm, a senior police officer said, Shunni’s flatmate woke up. He was getting ready to go to college when he tried to wake him up. He soon realised that that Shunni was not breathing.
“He got worried and immediately informed Shunni’s cousin who lived in the same locality in a rented flat. The cousin and his friend arrived at Shunni’s flat and called a senior representative of the northeastern people in the Delhi Police to inform him about the matter,” said the senior officer.
Around 4.30 pm, the Malviya Nagar police received a call about the death of a Manipuri student and immediately reached Amanat Apartments where Shunni lived with his friends on the second floor.
“Shunni was lying dead on his bed. There were no visible injury marks on his body and nothing unusual or suspicious was found in the incident spot. We have sent the body for autopsy and only the report can tell us the exact cause of his death,” added the officer.
The police have been questioning his friends to understand the exact sequence of events that may have led to his death.
