A 22-year-old first-year student of School of Planning and Architecture suffered a knee injury after a group of seniors allegedly tried to rag him inside a boy's hostel located in south Delhi, police said on Thursday.
A case was registered at the New Friends Colony police station on December 30 on the direction of the Jharkhand High Court. The victim's father had filed the complaint in the court after being fed up by the alleged slow approach of college authorities on the issue.
Naveen Kujur, who is doing a B.Architecture course from the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), had received a knee injury on September 2 when he along with his other colleagues were allegedly ragged by their seniors at midnight at their hostel premises in south Delhi's Taimoor Nagar, said a police officer.
The victim, a resident of Lowadih in Jharkhand's Ranchi, told the police that he was forced to do hundreds of sit-ups by his seniors. He returned to his home after he had difficulty in walking due to the knee injury, added the officer.
Naveen’s father wrote a letter to the college authorities, requesting them to take proper action in the incident but nothing was allegedly done.
“My father wrote several letters to the director of the college but did not get any reply from their side. When he moved the Jharkhand High Court on November 26, the court directed the Delhi police to register the case,” said Naveen, who is undergoing treatment at CMC in Vellore.
