The south Delhi police have arrested a 23-year-old kingpin of a gang involved in robbing patients in hospitals as well as passengers at railway stations and bus terminals.

They used to entrap people by asking them to sell their belongings to them. But the bag in which the money was paid contained real notes only on the first layer. When this ploy did not work, they would drug the victims and rob them.

The police identified the criminal as Chhote Lal aka Chhetia, a resident of Uttam Nagar. Chhetia along with his accomplice Shankar and a few others has committed over 50 thefts.

Chhaya Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (south), said the arrest came following investigation into a complaint lodged by one Mithlesh who was robbed of with her gold ear-ring and mobile phone by him outside Safdurjung Hospital. He was identified through the hospital’s CCTV footage.
