A 24-year-old man was killed and his father was seriously injured after four armed assailants on motorcycles shot them in northeast Delhi's Jhilmil area on Monday evening, police said.

"Mayank and his father Ramesh Gupta were en route their residence after collecting a payment from their clients in the Jhilmil industrial area when they were intercepted by four men on two motorcycles in the GTB enclave area at 7:45 pm," a senior Delhi police officer said.

Police said the Guptas are west Delhi-based businessmen who deal in copper. They were on their way to their residence in Shalimar Bagh when the assailants waylaid their Santro car.

"The father-son duo were keeping the cash payment in their car's boot when the incident occurred. Both of them were shot. While Mayank died on the spot, his father was rushed to GTB hospital. He is critical," the officer said.

Police said a case of robbery and murder has been registered.
