A 25-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her husband and in-laws for dowry in Greater Noida on Friday. A case of dowry death has been registered at the Kasna police Station on Sunday, police said.
“Her in-laws had taken her body to Bulandshahr for cremation without informing her parents. Her parents got to know from their neighbours and reached Bulandshahar, where the cremation was stopped and the body was handed over to the Kasna Police,” said PP Singh, station house officer (SHO) of Kasna police station.
The deceased was identified as Unna Devi, daughter of Khurja Bulandshahar resident Om Prakash. Three years ago she was married to Vedpal, a resident of Greater Noida.
Her husband runs grocery shop at the village, said Singh. “On Friday evening, her husband allegedly demanded R20,000 from her parents. When they expressed inability, he physically assaulted his wife and then strangled her to death,” said Singh.
“However, she was taken to the Kailash Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead. The accused immediately took her body to Bulandshahar for cremation. On Saturday, Bulandashahr Police stopped the cremation and took the body under its possession. It was later handed over to the Kasna Police,” the official said.
A case of dowry death has been registered against the husband and two others. All accused were said to be absconding till late Sunday evening, police said.
