The highly decomposed body of a 25-year-old married woman was found in her apartment in Rohini area of outer Delhi on Wednesday. The woman’s husband and her four-year-old daughter, however, are missing.
The women’s parents suspect her husband’s role in the murder. “The woman has been identified as Menka Rao. She was living with her husband Krishna Rao at Jhuley Lal apartments in Sector 16 of Rohini. Her parents had lodged a missing complaint on December 17,” a police officer said.
The incident came to light when Menka’s parents tried to contact her but the exercise proved to be futile. When they went to her house, they found it locked from outside. After forcing the main door open, Menka’s decomposed body was found in the apartment.
The police said that Krishna has been missing since December 11. Initial enquiry into the incident has revealed that he is wanted in a rape case in Prashant Vihar.
“They (the parents) had said that Menka, her husband and daughter were missing. On Wednesday, we received a PCR call from her parents that fan of the house was on. A team reached there and broke the lock open. The body was lying in the bedroom,” the officer said.
The police said that the body was highly decomposed and it seems she was killed on December 11. The body, which has bruises on its upper parts, has been sent for post mortem. Her parents have alleged that Krishna was harassing her for dowry.
“We are trying to trace Krishna, who runs a placement agency. He had taken a loan and we have found a bank notice pasted outside the house,” the officer added.
Though the police are tightlipped on Krishna’s role in the murder, they said that the fan was switched on intentionally to drive away the foul smell. “Generally, the body starts smelling within hours, but in this case, the neighbours did not notice anything,” the officer added.
“We have lodged a missing complaint on December 17 but police didn’t check her house. It was her parents who asked the police to break the lock on Wednesday,” a relative of Menka said.
Menka’s parent live in Adarsh Nagar in northwest Delhi and she got married five years ago. A case has been registered at the KN Katju Marg police station and further investigations are on.
