In a rare show of courage, a 25-year-old man caught hold of three youths in a moving bus near Tilak Bridge, when they tried to rob his mobile phone and wallet on Tuesday, police said.
The incident took place when Rajeev Kumar took a blueline bus for his office.
Police said as soon as the bus reached Tilak Bridge, one of the accused, Sahil Chowdhury, tried to steal Kumar's mobile phone. “After that, the other accused, Manish Sabharwal, pushed him from behind and tried to snatch his wallet. Rajeev overpowered him and controlled him also,” said a senior police officer. Sensing trouble, the driver stopped the bus on Barakhamba road.
“Two others been following the bus on their motorcycle. As soon as the bus stopped, Manish passed on the mobile phone to one of his accomplice. While Kumar managed to catch hold of the pillion rider, the other one fled away," added the officer.
Kumar, a resident of Shakarpur, received injuries in the scuffle. He was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital where he was released after first-aid treatment.
Police arrested the accused and said they have been involved in several robbery cases earlier and even have cases registered against them.
