A 25-year-old software engineer was waylaid, robbed and stabbed by three unidentified assailants, barely 50 metres away from a police station in southwest Delhi’s Dwarka on Wednesday evening.
According to the police, the incident took place when the victim, identified as Vipin Yadav, was dropped near his Sector 8 residence by his office cab around 7:45pm. “Last evening, Vipin, who works at an IT firm in Gurgaon, had returned early and was walking towards his house in Baghdola when the incident took place,” said a police officer.
Police said Vipin was taking a shorter route through a DDA park near Dwarka South police station to reach home when the three miscreants waylaid him. “One of them brandished a knife and asked Vipin to handover his wallet and valuables, while the others stood close to him from both sides. When he resisted, he was stabbed in the back,” said the officer.
The knife hit Vipin’s lung. Vipin, who was bleeding profusely, remained on the ground till a passer-by intimated the police.
The miscreants fled with Vipin’s wallet, containing around R650, and a mobile phone.
A police team admitted Vipin to the Ayushman Hospital , from where he was shifted to the Agrasen Hospital . His condition is stated to be stable.
“The police should be more vigilant and target goons, who camp in DDA parks. Such incidents have become routine,” said Virender Yadav, Vipin’s father.
