Three women call center employees were charred to death when their car caught fire near Singhu border in the Narela area of northwest Delhi in the early hours of Monday. Their two other colleagues, one of whom was driving the car, had a miraculous escape.

Police said the mishap took place when the group was returning home after attending the wedding of a common friend in Panipat.

The victims, all in their mid-twenties and residents of Dwarka, have been identified as Priyanka Bharti, Juhi Sharma and Sonam Sharma. The other two, who were injured, have been identified as Vineet Kumar and Ruby. The five were working for West India Private Limited-a Gurgaon based call Center Company.

Police said the car belonged to Kumar and he was in the driver's seat.

"My son was driving the car and his colleagues were with him. They were returning from a common friend's wedding. The mishap took place as soon as they neared the Singhu border. I am not aware about the cause of the fire," said Brij Mohan, Kumar's father.

All the occupants were rushed to Babu Jagjiwan Ram Hospital where three of the women were declared brought dead.

"My son is yet to gain consciousness. He is still lying in the hospital. They went to Panipat in a group of 20-25 friends and all of them were returning to Delhi in separate cars," said Brij Mohan.

Prima facie it seemed that after something ignited in the car's engine the driver lost control of the vehicle and it toppled several times to come to a halt after hitting a road divider. Police said they would register a case against Kumar and would be arresting him soon.
