3 cops suspended in custodial death case

The Senior Superintendent of Police on Wednesday suspended three policemen accused in the custodial death of an accused Sonu Singh in 2006. Superintendent of Police(City) A.K.Tripathi said, “SSP R.K.Chaturvedi has suspended three police men two head constables Pradeep Kumar and Pushpendera Kumar and constable Haripal Singh. They were found guilty in CBCID inquiry in the custody death case of the boy.”
On the night of September 1 2006, Sonu Singh son of Subek Singh was found dead inside his cell. Police had claimed that Sonu committed suicide by hanging himself with his shirt from the lock up grill. His father had lodged a case of murder against 6 policemen. Following the court’s order a CBCID inquiry was conducted and chargesheet was filed against 6 policemen and one police informer.
In another incident a Computer Operator working with Punjab National Bank in Sector 27 where an internet banking fraud of Rs 1.66 crore was reported recently, has gone missing mysteriously since last evening. Gopal Singh’s son Shyam Singh has lodged a missing person’s report with the Sector 20 police station, stating that his father did not return to their home in Sector 82 since last evening.
Sources said he may have been detained by the police to check his involvement in the case. SP (City) however said, “We have not detained him though we are investigating the involvement of staff members. We have got some leads in the case, but can not disclose as it would hamper the investigation.”
