Aamir Khan’s latest film found resonance with pro-Telangana protesters near North Block on Tuesday.

The faces on posters of the film 3 Idiots were substituted with those of TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu, Praja Rajyam leader Chiranjeevi and Congress MP from Vijaywada L Rajagopal.

The protesters wanted to indicate that the three were holding up the formation of a separate Telangana.

The protesters from JNU Forum for Telangana reached North Block in small groups and then gathered outside the gates of the home ministry and started shouting pro-Telangana slogans.

They were chased away by the CISF and Delhi police.

Earlier, 21 persons, including nine legislators and an MP from the state, were taken into preventive custody and later released when pro-Telangana and pro-Andhra groups raised slogans while Home Minister P. Chidambaran was meeting parties on the statehood issue in the high-security zone.

There were no anti-government placards, but with the Centre being blamed for the Andhra crisis and failure to propose a solution, Chidambaram sought to refute charges of having acted in haste.

“There is a misconception that the central government acted in haste, that the political parties were not consulted, and that I, as home minister, acted as an individual… None of these misconceptions is supported by facts,” he said.

After recounting the sequence of events, he urged parties to be accommodative and show goodwill.

“Ultimately, you must find the answers and you must help the central government find a solution,” he said, putting the onus on state parties.

He was confident that “if we take one step at a time, we will eventually find a solution”.

“There has to be a halt to agitations and bandhs,” Chidambaram added.
