Three persons were killed and four injured in two separate accidents that took place in north and east Delhi within minutes of each other on Tuesday night, police said.
In the first accident, a truck carrying fruits and vegetables fell off a flyover near the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium around 3 am, killing three persons.
"The victims were identified as the truck driver Prempal, 28, helper Vishal, 25, and Manoj, 25. One of the co-workers, 14-year-old Devender, is undergoing treatment at the Lok Nayak Hospital," said an officer.
According to the police, the truck was transporting apples from the Azadpur wholesale fruits and vegetables market. and were travelling towards Sarai Kale Khan ISBT when the accident occurred.
A passer-by who saw the accident, called the police control room. A team of police, which reached the accident spot, found that the truck had broken the iron railing while taking a sharp turn before plummeting 30 metres below.
"The vehicle was severely damaged and all of the occupants were rushed to Lok Nayak hospital where Prempal, Vishal and Manoj were declared dead. It seems that Prempal lost control of the vehicle because he was speeding.
A case of rash driving and causing death by negligence has been lodged.
In another accident, a collision between an Innova car and an unidentified hatchback near the Akshardham temple left three persons injured.
"The accident took place around midnight when both vehicles were proceeding towards Noida. The occupants of the vehicles, however, resolved the issue," an officer said.
