Three juveniles, who allegedly broke into a government employee’s residence in south Delhi’s Laxmi Bai Nagar before setting it ablaze six days ago, were nabbed on Saturday, police said.
“While one of them is 13 year old, the other two are 16. The three belong to the burgle-andburn gang, whose leader Sanju was nabbed recently,” said a senior police officer.
On the morning of March 6, Sunil Sharma, a senior field officer at the Cabinet Secretariat, returned to his ground floor house only to find it gutted. He later found out it was burgled before being set ablaze.
“Since the modus operandi was identical to that of the dreaded burgle-andburn gang, we launched our investigation into the incident from that angle. It was during patrolling that officers were able to nab the three juveniles from the Laxmi Nagar roundabout,” the officer said.
Police said just like their mentor, the three juveniles are alcoholics and addicted to ink- erasing fluid. “All three of them are school dropouts. One of them has previously been involved in various cases of burglary and loot and is the younger brother of Sanju, who is involved in many other cases and wanted in the in cases registered at the Sarojini Nagar police station,” the officer added. A day after the burgle-and- burn gang struck again in Laxmi Bai Nagar, the Station House Officer (SHO) Kshore Kumar, had been transferred to the district lines, a punishment posting, for not being able to prevent the incident.
