A 20-year-old polytechnic student and his two friends were on Saturday caught while trying to snatch a gold chain from a pedestrian. The victim, Ramesh Nakhwal, was out for a morning walk.

The three accused are Amit Singh, 20, and Naveen Singh, 21, and Rahul, 21. Amit is a student of a polytechnic college in Sonepat, Haryana.

V Renganathan, additional commissioner of police (west), said Amit and Naveen were caught by constable Harish Chander of Uttam Nagar police station.

“Chander was returning from the Rajouri Garden police station when he heard some commotion near the Janakpuri district centre. When he probed further, he saw three men on a motorcycle trying to snatch a chain from a pedestrian,” said Renganathan.

“The victim and the constable chased the snatchers until their motorcycle rammed a Honda City car. Amit and Naveen were overpowered while Rahul managed to escape from the spot. He was arrested later,” added Renganathan.
