Cheating his live-in partner of five years in east Delhi’s Farsh Bazar landed a 30-year-old businessman behind bars after his partner levelled allegations of rape against him and the police arrested him from his wedding venue.
On Wednesday, Ankit Sethi was getting married to another woman at a hotel on Link Road in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad when he was arrested.
The victim, a 26-year-old woman, reached the venue with a team from the Farsh Bazar police station and got Sethi arrested while the wedding ceremony was on.
According to police, Sethi decided to marry another girl without letting his former partner know even after being in a live-in relationship with her for five years and purportedly marrying her secretly at a temple in Haridwar.
A police officer said the matter came to light after the victim reportedly went to the venue and told people present there about her relationship with the groom.
A few minutes later, the police team arrived and took him in their custody.
“We registered a case of rape on the basis of her formal complaint. The victim’s medical examination confirmed rape and Sethi was formally arrested. On Thursday, he was produced before a city court that remanded in judicial custody for 14 days,” said a senior police officer.
The victim told the police that she met Sethi through a common friend.
