A 30-year-old man, who is suspected to be suffering from a mental disability, allegedly stabbed his parents in west Delhi after they denied him financial support to set up a business of his choice, police said on Sunday.
“The incident was reported from Janakpuri at 9 pm. We have detained Rohit Kapoor, the accused son, for injuring his mother Usha, 59, and father Ramesh, 63, with a kitchen knife, following an argument,” said a senior police officer.
Police said Rohit, who is currently being treated for his mental illness, attacked his parents on Friday night.
“For several weeks, Rohit had been insisting that his parents help him open a gift shop. However, his father had asked him to wait for sometime so that he could arrange the necessary finances. Last night, there was a discussion on this issue, during which his mother expressed reservations about it,” the officer said.
Angered over his mother's reaction, police said, Rohit stabbed her and similarly attacked his father when he attempted to intervene.
“His injured parents were rushed to the adjacent Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where Usha is in a critical condition and has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). We are yet to arrest Rohit, as he is mentally unfit and is seeking treatment,” the officer added.
Incidentally, Yusuf Ali, 28, who had allegedly beaten his mother to death in north-east Delhi following an argument over buying a mobile phone for her, was also held on Sunday.
