The Delhi government, which has been criticised for delays in compensating victims of previous blasts, distributed cheques to 41 affected families on Friday.
“We are in the process of distributing the rest. We didn’t want to delay the compensation as the families of victims suffer a lot of problems due to financial crunch,” said M T Kom, additional district magistrate, Parliament Street."Nothing can make up for the loss, but it is some relief," said Vinod Bakshi, brother of Mridul Bakshi, one of the more critical victims at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. The family is, however, unhappy with the compensation of Rs 1 lakh. "Doctors are saying that he may not be able to walk ever. He won’t be able to work for a year at least. Government should have considered these factors," added Bakshi. The family of Tarshem Singh, who is on life support, also received Rs 1 lakh. "The money will be a big help," said Jaspal Kaur, Singh’s wife.
