Dreams give us wings. But the flight is bound to crash if we take the crime shortcut.
That is exactly what happened to four friends from a poor Jahangirpuri neighbourhood.
Mukesh Kumar (23) wanted to be a model. Rajesh Kumar, who liked riding his luck, wanted to be a rich gambler.
So they started robbing people with the help of two others, calling their group the D-Company.
It was the Special Staff of West Delhi Police that intervened to end the silly crime thriller.
Three of them, including Mukesh, Rajesh and Vasu Dev (19), were arrested for allegedly committing as many as 50 armed road robberies. The fourth friend Sonu is absconding.
The police received a tip-off that Rajesh and his accomplices would gather near Chhatrapati Shivaji DDA Park in Rajouri Garden.
“A trap was laid and the three were held,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Sharad Aggarwal.
“They would target people who would stop to attend mobile phones or men who would stop by to urinate. They would draw out country-made pistols and knives to scare people and rob them."
“They would force their victims to remove their clothes to stop them from following or informing the police immediately,” Aggarwal said.
They chose Ring Road Mukarba Chowk, Shalimar Bagh, Adarsh Nagar, Rajouri Garden and Punjabi Bagh for their operation.
The police have recovered two country-made pistols and four robbed mobile phones from their possession.
The police also said Mukesh needed money to get his modelling portfolio done.
