In another grim reminder of how unsafe the city has become, a 58-year-old man was found murdered in his DLF Phase 4 house on Monday.
Victim Mukesh Shetty was working as an independent consultant for the past nine years and used to lived alone.
Police officials said that the murder had possibly taken place on Saturday as they found the body in a decomposed state. Shetty had reportedly been strangled to death by a cable wire.
The police said that the body was discovered after Shetty’s domestic help Mahesh, who had gone on leave, returned on Monday.
He rang the doorbell but got no reply. He found the back door of the house open and entered. Mahesh was shocked to find Shetty’s body lying in a pool of blood and a wire tied around his neck, the police said.
Mahesh then informed the deceased’s brother Narender Shetty about the crime who then informed the police around 10am.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that Shetty had allegedly hired three helps to look after his some domestic work as Mahesh had gone on a 10-day leave.
Police officials are now suspecting the role of the three unknown men who have been untraceable since the incident came to light.
The motive of the crime is, however, yet to be ascertained as nothing has been found missing from the house.
“It seems the assailants had made a friendly entry into the house,” said a police officer.
The police is also not ruling out personal enmity and have begun questioning Shetty’s close relatives and the people he had employed.
“It is still too early to reach any conclusion. We are investigating the case from all angles,” said a senior police official.
A case of murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against unknown persons.
