Lawyers of the six district courts of Delhi will abstain from work on Monday to protest against the city government’s decision to increase the number of revenue districts in the Capital from 9 to 11.

“The government has not justified its decision to create two more revenue districts. This exercise will unnecessarily lead to wasting public money,” said R N Vats, chairman of the co-ordination committee of All District Court Bar Associations of Delhi. Drawing attention to the increased court fees, he said that it puts financial strain on the common man, while taking “arbitrary” decisions to increase the number of courts. “The government has failed to understand that the situation has worsened with the formation of 9 districts. This has inconvenienced the litigants, as they have to travel large distances,” he alleged.

“The government has ignored that court complexes have been set up at far off places,” said Jagdish Vats.
