Railways on Tuesday cancelled 73 trains on Delhi-Bhathinda section and in Bikaner and Jaipur division due to the agitation by members of the Jat community demanding reservation in central jobs.
New Delhi-Ajmer-New Delhi Shatabdi Express, New Delhi-Ahmedabad-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, Firozpur-Mumbai Central Janta Exp, Jaipur-Chandigarh Garib Rath Express, Lalgarh-Guwahati Avadh Assam Express, Jodhpur-Delhi Sarai Rohilla Rajasthan Express, Amritsar-Jaipur Express, Sriganganagar-Howrah-Sriganganagar Udyan Abha Toofan Express, Rewari-Hisar passenger, Haridwar-Sriganganagar Intercity Express trains are among those trains cancelled due to the agitation.
Several passenger trains including Rohtak-Jind passenger, Jind- Kurushetra passenger, Sirsa-Jind–Sirsa passenger, Jind–Firozpur–Jind passenger were also cancelled.
Railways have also announced the cancellation of 66 trains on Wednesday.
If the agitation continued tomorrow then 66 trains in these sections would remain cancelled, said Northern Railway spokesperson.
Besides five trains including Jaisalmer-Delhi Express and Jammu Tawi-Ajmer Express were short terminated from Jaipur and Delhi respectively.
Due to Jat agitation, many passenger and goods trains have been affected since March 5.
"The agitation has resulted in acute inconvenience to passengers and serious problems in the movement of goods and cargo carrying trains, especially food grains and coal," said the official adding "Railways compelled to cancel a few trains in order to ensure the transport of the food grains from godowns for better supply of coal to power houses."
Northern Railways has opened helpline for providing information to the passengers. The numbers are 011-23369804 and 011-23367724.
The official said "In order to ensure that passengers receive a regular flow of information, updated information is being provided on the Railway Telephonic Enquiry System and on TV screens."
Northern Railway has also opened additional counters for the refund of the tickets.
