Hosting weddings at the municipal corporation-run community halls is set to become a grand affair in East Delhi.
The East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) has proposed to upgrade its eight A-category community halls to make them fully air-conditioned and equip them with modern facilities.
This way, the corporation expects more people to book the halls, which will in turn increase revenue for the EDMC.
At present, the EDMC charges R20,000 each for the eight A-category community halls falling under its jurisdiction. With the upgradation, the charges will be increased to reflect the increase in the facilities.
These community centres are located in areas such as Mayur Vihar, Preet Vihar, Laxmi Nagar, Patpatganj, Vivek Vihar falling under Shahdara South zone of the EDMC. The proposal was taken up in a meeting of the East Delhi Municipal Commissioner SS Yadav with all HoDs of the EDMC on Thursday.
An official of the EDMC said that after the upgradation, the community centres will be equipped with modern utilities such as air-conditioners, fire-protection system and modern kitchen equipment. The facilities will be eco-friendly and remodelled with the addition of new space. They will also be made disabled-friendly.
“The budget for such an upgradation is being calculated,” said the official.
Out of the total 208 community centres in all the three municipal corporations of Delhi, the EDMC has 42 community centres.
Currently, none of the community halls under the three corporations is air-conditioned.
