Next time you visit the Qutb Minar, you can avail of the audio guide facility, which was inaugurated at the World Heritage Monument on World Heritage Day, on Saturday.
Each visitor opting for the use of audio guide service — right now available in English, Spanish and French — would be provided with a hand-held easy-to-operate personal unit at a cost of Rs 100. The service would soon be available in Hindi, German, Chinese and Japanese as well. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has started this on public-private
partnership model with Integrated Digital Solutions.
During a programme to inaugurate the service, Secretary (Culture) Jawahar Sircar said various communicative strategies are needed to bring in visitors. “Audio guides will tell the visitor about the history associated with the monument,” he said.
Lt Governor Tejendra Khanna said, “When we are trying to preserve our heritage for future generations, we should understand that India is a living heritage. We should (also) understand the civilisational heritage.”
ASI Director General KN Srivastava requested the Lt-Governor to hand over a PWD guesthouse in front of the Qutb for converting it into an interpretation centre. He also pointed out the need to block vehicular traffic in front of the monument as the heavy traffic at times becomes dangerous for tourists walking from the ticket window to the monument.
