“It was my dream car. It took me six years to buy that car and it did not last even six months.”

On January 3, 2009, Sharma’s car was stolen from outside his house. The Tata Safari was only four months old.

“I lost all hope of getting my car back. The loss was so great mentally and financially that it took me more than a year to buy a new car,” he says.

A month before his SUV (sports utility vehicle) was stolen; thieves had stolen one of the rear view mirrors.

He had shifted from Gurgaon to Chittaranjan Park in the hope of living in an area that is safer and more secure for him and his family.

“We decided to stay in CR Park where the rents are skyrocketing because we thought this locality would be safe. And then something like this happens.”

Now, he is not taking any chances with his new car and has taken every possible precaution.

“I keep on checking through the night. It is a matter of my hard-earned money after all.”
