A day after sacked Delhi minister Kapil Mishra levelled graft allegations against chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, political parties and leader were engaged in a slugfest. While the BJP and Congress sought the CM’s resignation, Mishra stuck to his ground and submitted proof to the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) in the alleged water tanker scam.
The sacked minister claimed that a conspiracy was hatched against him because of the alleged Rs 400-crore water tanker scandal in the Delhi government. Mishra had alleged that he had seen Kejriwal accepting Rs 2cr unaccounted money from health minister Satyendar Jain. The AAP stood by Kejriwal and dismissed Mishra’s claims, who said he will meet CBI on Tuesday to file a complaint.

6.35pm: BJP leader Vijender Gupta says that two cases had been filed in connection with the water tanker scam, but no action has been taken. “Even after it has been proved that there was a water tanker scam of Rs 400 crore during Sheila ji’s rule, Kejriwal is still using the same contractors at same rates,” he alleged.

5.45pm: BJP knocks L-G’s door
A BJP delegation led by senior party leader Vijender Gupta met L-G Anil Baijal and demanded strict action against Arvind Kejriwal for his alleged involvement in the tanker scam. “We informed the L-G about the corruption in the Delhi government in which the state CM Kejriwal is also involved. When Kejriwal was not in power, he used to say that he would act against corruption but he changed his ways after coming in power,” Gupta told the media here. Mishra alleges the party used money, alcohol and women to allot tickets during the MCD and Punjab polls. “Today I got calls from a number of people across the country who claimed that tickets had been allocated for money in the elections. 4.25pm: On a day when the AAP turned fire on BJP and the centre government, the Delhi High Court issued notice to Centre, L-G and the Delhi government over Rs 97 crore ad expense which the L-G had directed AAP to pay up. AAP had filed a plea in the high court over L-G’s order. The AAP claimed on Monday that the BJP had been trying to wipe it out by repeatedly dragging it in controversies. 4.05pm: Truth has a habit of coming out, says Rahul: Referring to sacked Delhi Water Minister Kapil Mishra’s allegations against Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Monday said “truth has a habit of coming out”.
3.55pm: Kapil Mishra, who had left ACB headquarters at around 12pm saying he was headed to CBI office to give his complaint, has not reached the CBI office so far. Mishra had tweeted earlier that he is likely to make an ‘important announcement’ at 5pm.

3pm: Quit or go to jail, says BJP: Delhi BJP chief Manoj Towari asked Kejriwal to decide his fate. “Either (go to) jail or resign. Please decide Arvind Kejriwalji as being (the) CM of Delhi you can decide for people of Delhi. Only you said it.” He was referring to Arvind Kejriwal’s May 10, 2013 tweet: “Should people just resign for corruption or should they be sent to jail for corruption?” Kejriwal had then asked.
2.45pm: BJP conspiring to crush AAP, says Sanjay Singh: AAP blames the BJP and the central government for charges hurled against the chief minister, saying this was part of a larger conspiracy to “finish off” the party and to “silence” the opposition. “Our only fault is that we are fighting for the rights of the poor and the marginalized and are raising our voice against the politics of hate. They want to silence our voice,” Singh says.

1.10pm: Several party MLAs including Alka Lamba, Adarsh Shastri, Somnath Bharti, Rajesh Rishi, who had echoed the position of Kumar Vishwas for the party’s need to introspect in the wake of poll defeats, rallied behind Kejriwal who for the first time faced graft charges. “I might agree with charges of power greed, arrogance, authoritarianism against Kejriwal, but charge of taking bribe need solid evidence,” tweeted Yogendra Yadav, Kejriwal’s former colleague.
1pm: Mishra alleges that Arvind Kejriwal and two others — Ashish Talwar and Vibhav Patel — were responsible for the delay in action in the water tanker scam. “I have furnished all information I had with the ACB officials. I informed them about the misuse of public money and the delay in the inquiry into the matter,” he said.
12.50pm: Kapil Mishra slams attempts to label him as a BJP stooge in the wake of allegations levelled by him. “Anyone who dares to speak up should not be called an agent of BJP or Modi... 12.40pm: AAP’s Delhi unit convener Dilip Pandey says Kapil Mishra is repeating the BJP script on water tanker scam.
12.35pm: Also at the ACB, reality show participant and self-styled guru Swami Om files a complaint against CM Kejriwal. Om tells reporters that Kejriwal should be probed for alleged charges of amassing wealth, and involvement with Naxals. ACB officials said they have only received his complaint but have not ordered any enquiry because the man did not give any evidence.
12.30pm: Aam Adami Party will hold a press conference over Mishra’s allegations at 1pm. Mishra’s claims have increased troubles for the AAP that is yet to recover from a string of electoral losses.

12.08pm: The Delhi BJP has filed a complaint against Arvind Kejriwal before Delhi Lokayukta, said BJP spokesperson Rajiv Babbar. He said leader of opposition in Delhi assembly Vijender Gupta will meet L-G in the evening along with four party MLAs and submit documents pertaining to tanker scam.
11.57am: Kapil Mishra says he will now go to the CBI to submit proof in the case.
11.54am: Mishra tells reporters that he is ready to take the lie-detector test and that the chief minister should also undergo the test to come clean.

11.30am: BJP leader Shyam Jaju says people should welcome the disclosure made by kapil Mishra as it shows the true character of the AAP front runners. “Whatever kapil Mishra has said is just a flash. He has given some proof to the LG some he has kept with himself and he will soon give all the proof to the CBI. I believe that we all should welcome this. 10.33am: According to reports L-G Anil Bailjal has sought a response from ACB over Kapil Mishra’s complaints against the CM in seven days.
10.28am: The L-G has reportedly, forwarded Kapil Mishra’s complaint to the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB). Mishra had met him on Sunday with the complaint.
10.22: ACB officials says they are waiting for Kapil Mishra and will look into the allegations. Officials also said they will look at the evidence which the former minister presents.
10.15am: The allegations were dismissed by deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia who said, “The baseless allegations are not even worth responding to, I don’t even know what to say.” Party leader, Kumar Vishwas, who recently fell out with the party chief also dismissed the allegations. 10am: Mishra’s allegation will damage AAP politically: Ex-Delhi Chief Secy
Former Delhi chief secretary Omesh Sehgal says the allegations would damage the political image of AAP. “Politically, this will be quite damaging; there is no doubt about that. But legally this remains to be an allegation, because there has to be quid pro quo. It has to be probed by the prosecution. There will be a lot of political pressure and hullaballoo, but nothing will happen,” Sehgal said.
9.45am: ‘Myth’ around Kejriwal’s ‘crusade’ against corruption busted: BJP
BJP leader S Prakash says Kejriwal, who has the ‘penchant to hit and run’ in various cases against his opponents will at least now order a probe against his own charges and submit a resignation till his name is clear. “The myth around Arvind Kejriwal about his crusade against corruption has been busted... I think there is a bigger conspiracy behind this allegation,” he said.
9.20am:AAP lost its ‘basic premise’ of being against corruption: Congress
Congress says Mishra’s allegations are ‘very serious’ and the party had lost its basic ‘agenda’ to fight against corruption. “This is not a single allegation that has been made. Out of a total of seven, who had taken oath to fight against corruption, six have been removed so far. It explains that the party has lost its basic premise of being against corruption,” Congress leader Ajay Maken said.
9am: BJP’s Vijender Gupta, leader of the Opposition in the Delhi assembly, says he will meet lieutenant governor Anil Baijal in the afternoon and demand action against Kejriwal.
7:03am: The BJP says the ‘myth’ around Kejriwal about his ‘crusade’ against corruption has been busted.BJP leader S Prakash told ANI: “This allegation needs to be probed and investigated and the truth has to come out. I think there is a bigger conspiracy behind this allegation.” He also said that deputy CM Manish Sisodia’s dismissal of the charges will not satisfy.
The Rs 400-crore water tanker scandal
The alleged tanker scam dates back to 2012 when the Congress ruled the city, and involves irregularities in hiring stainless steel water tanks from private contractors.
An inquiry committee under Mishra was formed after the AAP came to power and he apparently said to Kejriwal that the panel’s report could spell trouble to people in the AAP government as well.
Mishra alleged on Sunday that Kejriwal was protecting corrupt AAP leaders and supporters by not making the report public.
