The Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Purvanchal Wing District president was found dead in the bushes near his house in Outer Delhi’s Begum Vihar area near Rohini Sector 24 on Monday morning.
According to the police, Dhirendra was found with several injury marks inflicted on him using a sharp weapon, including his private parts. It also appears that dogs in the area had fed upon the body after it was dumped.
Prima facie, police said it looked like a case of a hate crime.
“Since he was so brutally attacked, it does not appear to be a case of robbery gone wrong but of a hate crime. We have registered a case in the matter and are investigating it,” a police source said, adding, “We cannot comment on how active he was in main stream politics or if the murder is related to his political career.”
Thirty year old Dhirendra worked as a masseur at a parlour and was also an AAP volunteer. He reportedly did not return home on Sunday night and his body was found less than a kilometre away from his house near a dark stretch in the bushes on Monday.
Delhi chief minister and AAP head Arvind Kejriwal, who tweeted his condolences earlier in the day, visited Dhirendra’s family on Monday afternoon.
