In a strange move, Navy war room leak case prime accused Abhishek Verma's wife has sought court protection from the wife of the alleged mastermind of the multi-crore defence colony robbery.
Verma's Romanian wife Anca Maria has filed an application in a Delhi court, fearing death threat from Rashmi Sharma, arrested along with others in connection with the Rs. 5.25 crore heist that took place this month.
Maria claimed in her application that Rashmi was a threat to her safety as her husband Hari Kishan Sharma, his brother Deepak Sharma and their aide Vijay Nahar Singh have years of enmity with Abhishek Verma.
She also requested the court to provide a separate vehicle during her visits to court and hospital.
The Delhi Police had arrested Verma couple last month for allegedly forging a letter from Ajay Maken, Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, to the Prime Minister of India.
Verma, his wife and the Defence Colony robbery accused are lodged in Tihar jail.
Maria's counsel Vijay Aggarwal told Special CBI judge Sanjeev Jain that Abhishek Verma was attacked in a jail van in 2007 as he had refused to pay R3 crore extortion money. Following the incident, Delhi Police had registered a FIR against Deepak, Hari Kishan and Singh for inflicting grievous injuries and extortion.
The Delhi Police have arrested Rashmi along with the others in connection with the Defence Colony bank van robbery.
Maria accused Rashmi of being a hardcore criminal who knows other female inmates of Tihar. She also told the court she may become "a soft target and could be attacked in the jail van or police lock-up by criminals at the behest of Rashmi Sharma".
Her counsel told the court that after the attack on Abhishek Verma in 2007, the court had provided a bulletproof jacket to him and arranged a separate vehicle for his visits to court and hospital.
Maria requested the court to make safety arrangements for her inside jail and during her transportation to the court complex and hospital.
The court reserved its order on the application till Tuesday.
