Himanshu Gupta and Vikas' plan was fool proof.
The duo, who were caught by Delhi police's crime branch for running a fake educational consultancy firm, used to get fake caste certificates uploaded on Delhi government's website - the ultimate sign of authenticity.
Their key accomplice was one Ketan, who works as a data entry operator with the Tehsildar of Mehrauli and has easy access to official letterhead, which was used to issue fake caste certificates. He has also been arrested.
"Ketan had access to the official website on which he used to upload the certificates. Only the Tehsildar's signature on the certificates was forged," Ashok Chand, DCP (crime) said.
The arrest was made by a team of crime branch led by ACP Rajender Bakshi who had received a tip-off about the racket. "In this academic session, 10 forged caste certificates were issued from the office of Tehsildar in Mehrauli and two were issued from Ghaziabad," Chand added.
The duo had floated Sai Educational Consultancy and advertised in leading newspapers in Delhi and other cities since 2008. They used to go to colleges and lure students by promising them admission. Besides, through word of mouth, students learnt that the accuse help students get admission in Delhi University.
The police arrested Himanshu, a resident of Malviya Nagar, from Hans Raj College. He had with him a forged caste certificate of a girl student, admission form of Hans Raj College and a bank draft in the name of the college.
"He told the police that he had come along with a girl to get her admitted in B.Com (Hons.) course in Hans Raj College," Chand added.
According to the certificate, the girl belonged to the Gujjar case and her residence was shown as Village Lado Sarai, New Delhi - both details were fake. The girl student had secured 91% in her board exam.
The second accused, Vikas, has recently cleared the entrance test for LLB course from Faculty of Law, DU, while Himanshu did a course in Merchant Navy from Mumbai and worked as a Third Officer in a ship. He did his Class X from a prominent school in Hauz Khas.
