Two motorcycle-borne men poured acid over a 40-year-old man whom they suspected of being involved in an acid-throwing case 13 years ago, police said. A woman and a child had died in that acid attack.
In the incident that took place on Monday at Garhmukteshwar in Ghaziabad, the men poured nearly five litres of acid over Mohammed Usman around 11 p.m. while he was sleeping outside his house in the Dautai area, police said.
The victim is in a critical state and has suffered 95 per cent burn injuries. He has been referred to Meerut," Superintendent of Police (SP) M.M. Baig said.
“The victim’s relatives identified the two men as Anjaar and Salim Ahmed, residents of the Kithor area of Meerut. The victim's wife, Sabri Parveen, lodged an FIR.
The motive of Monday's attack was the death of Mariam Parveen and her minor child in a similar incident at Kithor area of Meerut 13 years ago.
“Mariam's husband Akram Ahmed had a criminal background and was shot dead in a police encounter 11 years ago. The two accused who poured acid over Usman were relatives of Parveen and Akram and
suspected him of being
responsible for the deaths of Mariam, Akram and their child,” the SP said.
No arrests have been made so far. “A hunt is on and the two will be nabbed soon,” Baig said.
