Siddhartha, a student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sector 8 in RK Puram, is 60% visually-impaired. He has had this condition since birth and can read only from a distance of six inches.

The teenager has scored 99 each in maths and physics, 96 in computer science and 95 each in chemistry and English. He is not exactly beaming. Siddhartha wanted to get at least 99 in chemistry, if not a perfect score.

“I was expecting a 99 in chemistry and 100 in maths. It is a bit disappointing. I had studied hard and had answered the paper correctly,” said Siddhartha. He lives with his parents and younger brother in Delhi Cantonment.

The IIT aspirant is fond of reading. He wants to study engineering physics. “Physics is my favourite subject. I want to do research in the discipline,” he said, who won the National Talent Search Examination scholarship in Class 10. He has already taken the entrance exam for VIT University.

“I use binocular glasses instead of powered glasses to read. But I don’t take the glasses to school as I feel shy,” he said.

Siddhartha attributes his success to his parents, Jayant and Ipsita Biswas, who always stood by him.

“He had been doing well, but I didn’t expect him to be one of the toppers,” said Jayant Biswas, a group captain in the Indian Air Force.

Kuldip Kaur, school principal, was esctatic. “He has always been a quiet and focused boy.”
