Arvind Kejriwal will travel by car to Ramlila Maidan on Saturday to take oath as chief minister instead of being part of a roadshow planned from his house in Ghaziabad to the central Delhi venue because of poor health.
After the swearing-in ceremony, the CM-elect, suffering from fever and cold, may also return home as opposed to his earlier plans to go, along with his cabinet colleagues, to the secretariat building to take charge.
Kejriwal cancelled all meetings scheduled for Friday because he was unwell and doctors advised hin complete bed rest for one more day. “Kejriwal’s health condition has improved compared to Thursday, but he still has fever. However, he is recovering from cough and cold conditions and has been advised not to talk much,” Dr Vipin Mittal said, adding another round of check-up will happen later in the evening and on Saturday morning before Kejriwal leaves for Ramlila Maidan.
Party colleagues are always concerned about his health. “We have to sit with him in the car with food so that he eats right. Skipping meals for a diabetic is dangerous,” said one of his close aides.
Those close to Kejriwal blame the health condition on exertion. “He works very hard - from writing party slogans to addressing public meetings, he does most things himself. And he is frail, diabetic, and allergic,” said a senior party colleague.
Since December, he has held 110 public meetings, addressed gatherings at two to three places every day. Much of the campaigning happened in biting cold weather. “It (exertion) took its toll. It’s not easy. For the party and the government, he keeps torturing himself. He needs to find a balance and rest,” he said.
Kejriwal is supposed to take drugs every day to breathe easier and balance out blood sugar level. “But over the last few months, he ignored his medicines. He does not like allopathy. But ayurveda, naturopathy and homeopathy have not worked either,” said another aide.
