Nominated member in Rajya Sabha and former union minister Mani Shankar Aiyar, who is often critical of the UPA's policies, came in support of the government on the FDI in retail issue.

In an apparent dig at BJP's deputy leader in Rajya Sabha S S Ahluwalia, Aiyar told HT: "The opposition is suffering from 'Ahluwalitis'-shouting at the top of the voice and forcing adjournments." He said, "It's clear that the FDI in retail will create employment. If someone feels there will be adverse effects, let there be a discussion."
