A male child, aged one, was assaulted to death by his alcoholic father in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area on Saturday, police said.

“The incident occurred at Inder Camp area near Rangpuri Pahari at 8pm on Saturday. Dev’s father, Joginder, killed
him in a fit of rage because he wouldn’t stop crying,” said a senior police officer, requesting anonymity.

According to police, the incident occurred when Dev’s wife, Kumitra, was away.

“Kumitra said, Joginder came to the house heavily drunk around 7.30pm on Saturday, rebuked her and asked her to fetch some groceries from the neighbourhood market. She left the house, leaving Dev in his father’s care,” said the officer.

When Kumitra returned, police said, she saw Dev lying inert on the bed.

“The child was rushed to the Trauma Centre at AIIMS, where he was pronounced brought dead on arrival. Later, Joginder confessed to having hurled Dev on to the bed in a fit of rage,” the officer said.

Joginder told police that he got angry when Dev wouldn’t stop crying.
