The government's ambitious project to give food security to most vulnerable section of the society will be launched in Delhi on December 15.
Called 'Dilli Annashree Yojana', almost two lakh families of Delhi will now get a cash subsidy of Rs 600 a month, which will be transferred directly to the bank account of the senior-most woman of the household. The scheme, said an official, is being implemented with the retrospective effect of April 1.
"We have tied up with six leading banks, which are now organising camps to help the families covered under the scheme to open no-frill bank accounts," a senior Delhi government official said. A senior Delhi government official said about four lakh families in Delhi, which are covered under the 'below poverty line' and 'Antodaya Anna Yojana' scheme, get essential food items at subsidised rates through public distribution system.
