Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Sunday said that Anna Hazare was being taken for a ride by some of his "very smart" team members, who were using him to further their political ambitions.
Singh said the Congress leadership shared his perception, though he made it clear that he had not discussed the matter with Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and general secretary Rahul Gandhi.
In an interview to Karan Thapar on CNN-IBN's Devil's Advocate, Singh said, "He is a simpleton... He is susceptible to pressures and the all the people around him have their political agenda. He is highly susceptible to being exploited by smart people."
Singh, who is known to take potshots at Team Anna, said "poor Anna" was being made a scapegoat by some of his own team members to fulfil their agenda as he had greater credibility than them. Singh said he did not regret remarks made against Hazare and his team and would continue to do so if circumstances remained the same.
Singh said it was unfortunate that Hazare was not realising that he was being misused by the RSS and the BJP. Sounding a note of caution, he said, "Beware of RSS and BJP. They will lead you to a point from where it will be very difficult for you to come back."
Singh questioned Hazare's "double standards" for praising Narendra Modi, who had not appointed a Lokayukta in Gujarat for so many years.
Singh also took a swipe at Arvind Kejriwal on the issue of Team Anna returning the donations made by unknown persons. "He (Kejriwal) is an IRS officer. I do not know what kind of accounting he did there. He has been taking money from unknown donors and returning money to unknown donors," Singh said.
