Early morning on Friday, things took an ugly turn when a few supporters beat up police personnel outside Ramlila ground. But police say they are receiving similar complaints from all over the city. Wearing Anna caps, bikers are performing stunts on roads and people are travelling on car roofs.
The worst affected is Lutyens' Delhi, especially India Gate where Anna supporters hold up traffic every night. “We can’t stop them as they retaliate violently,” said a traffic police official.
Delhi Police have now written to India Against Corruption, asking them to prevent such incidents. They have also held two persons—a BCA student and a financial officer in a private airline—for Friday’s incident.
Late evening saw police crackdown at several places in New Delhi. India Gate roundabout has been barricaded and police is punishing those violating traffic rules.
