A father of two children allegedly sexually assaulted a two-year-old girl in west Delhi on Sunday evening.
Police said the man was known to the family and had, in fact, asked her father’s permission to take her out for a ‘joyride’ on his cycle-rickshaw. An official of the Rajouri Garden police station said the girl’s father lodged a complaint at midnight.
The victim, Geeta, is still learning to walk and speak. She lives with her parents and two brothers in Raghubir Nagar near Rajouri Garden. Her father owns a tea stall. The police said the accused, Raju, took Geeta for a ride on his cycle-rickshaw and raped her.
“Raju is absconding since the incident. He doesn’t seem to have a proper accommodation. He is married and has two children,” said an officer. The victim’s family knows Raju well since they all hail from Bihar, said an officer. “Raju’s brother-in-law lives with the victim’s family and Raju often visited their house,” said the officer.
Raju came to their house at about 7 pm on Sunday and chatted with Geeta’s father and mother for some time. He then asked her father if he could take the girl out for a ride on his cycle-rickshaw.
“I obviously did not suspect any foul play since Raju was like a family member. I agreed since Geeta was getting restless inside the house,” Geeta’s father said.
The police said Raju was with Geeta for more than two hours. He returned at about 10.30 pm and quietly dropped her off at her home.
Geeta has barely learnt to speak. The parents came to know of the assault some time later when they saw her bleeding. “Geeta’s father said they had caught Raju, but for some unexplained reason they let him go, after which they came to us,” said an officer, adding a medical test in the girl confirmed assault.
