Delhi Police have arrested the driver of pre-paid taxi for molesting an Australian woman after she boarded his taxi from Indira Gandhi International Airport on Thursday.
The incident took place a day after an Australian woman was molested by a tailor, who had offered her a lift in his car, in Mandir Marg area in Central Delhi.
"The 60-year-old woman came to IGI police station around 3pm on Thursday and filed a complaint. She had the pre-paid slip with her and we managed to trace the driver through that," RA Sanjeev, DCP (airport), said.
The complainant had come from Australia in the morning via Singapore by a Jet Airways flight.
"She had taken a pre-paid taxi from outside Terminal 3 of the Delhi airport. According to her complaint, the driver misbehaved and molested her somewhere near Budha Garden at Ridge road," said a senior police officer.
"She had to go to a hotel in Paharganj but after the incident she left that taxi, took another taxi and came back straight to the IGI airport," the police officer added.
The accused, identified as Ram Chander, has been arrested and his pre-paid taxi has been seized.
A case under Section 354 (assault or criminal force on woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of Indian Penal Code has been registered at the IGIA police station and further investigations are on.
On March 17, 2004, Emelie Griggs (59) of Australia had arrived in New Delhi to enrol in a meditation course.
She was raped and killed by a taxi driver and his associate shortly after she checked out of Indira Gandhi International Airport and took a taxi.
