The condition of Union HRD Minister Arjun Singh, who was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi after stomach pain, is improving, doctors said on Friday.

"His condition is stable and he is improving," said AIIMS Medical Superintendent Dr D K Sharma.

The 77-year-old Congress leader was admitted to the hospital on the night of July 30. He has been diagnosed with acute cholecystitis, cardio-artery disease, left ventricle failure, diabetes mellitus, diabetic neuropathy and chronic obstructive airway disease.

"He was in acute phase when admitted. In the beginning we will try antibiotics to cure the infection. Once the infection is under control we might go for operation of the gall bladder," said one of the doctors at AIIMS in New Delhi.

Singh is being looked after by a team of doctors headed by Dr T K Chattopadhyay, Head of the Department of General Surgery, and Dr Chandralekha, HoD, Anaesthesiology.
