A 52-year-old businessman was shot dead outside his Tilak Nagar house in West Delhi on Friday night. Police said some men on a motorcycle robbed the bag the victim carried with him.

Laxmi Narayan had stepped out of his Wagon R car when unidentified bike-borne men intercepted him outside his house, snatched his moneybag and shot him before fleeing the scene, police said.

Till April 30 this year, 202 incidents of robbery and 450 incidents of snatching had been reported in the Capital.

The victim runs an automobile spare parts shop at Meenakshi Garden, near Subhash Garden in west Delhi.

The incident was reported around 9.30 pm when Narayan was returning home with the day’s collection of Rs 70,000.

Police suspect the robbers were following Narayan from his shop and fired at him when he resisted their robbery attempt. But the police have not been able to trace any eyewitness in the case so far.

Police said the robbers fired four rounds and shot twice at the victim before fleeing with the money.

One of the bullets hit the victim’s car while the other was fired in the air.

The victim’s son was in the house when the former was attacked outside the house. He ran out to see what had happened after he heard the gunshots. Narayan was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.

A post-mortem examination was conducted on Saturday and the body was handed over to the family. The victim is survived by wife and two sons.

“So far we have not got any eyewitnesses to the incident. It is strange as the murder took place on a busy road. We are interrogating the people in the vicinity to gain more clues about the incident,” said Sharad Aggarwal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (west).

Police said they have registered a case of robbery and murder at Hari Nagar police station.
