Delhiites shivered on Tuesday as the city recorded its lowest day time temperature of the season at 14 degrees Celsius, six degrees below normal.
All through the day, icy winds lashed the Capital. Add to that the overnight rain, which led to Delhi experiencing the chilliest day of the season so far.
Wednesday and Tuesday are likely to be better with the maximum temperatures expected to be around 18 degrees.
The minimum temperature on Tuesday morning was recorded at 9.3 degree Celsius, two degrees above normal but down from Monday's 10.5 degrees.
On January 6, the maximum had dropped to 16.9 degree Celsius, the lowest maximum this season till before Tuesday.
"I almost froze in the auto. For the first time in my life, I wished I had taken the Metro despite the rush," said Kamya Sharma, a teacher in a south Delhi school.
According to Met officials, while the temperature will rise in the coming couple of days, more days like Tuesday are expected in the coming week. "We are expecting another western disturbance on January 23 and 24. This will bring another bout of rains," said a senior Met official.
In the past few days, the mercury had been on an upward swing after icy winds had kept the temperatures at below normal levels for several days.
The Met department has predicted that minimum temperatures is likely to plummet to as low as six degrees in the next two days.
The city also experienced fog on Tuesday which caused disruptions in airport operations.
