After showing some signs of improvement on Wednesday, Gurgaon resident Raj Bala (50) remained critical all day on Thursday.
She was hurt in the police action on Ramdev followers at the Ramlila grounds on Saturday night. "We almost lost her today. There was no heartbeat in the afternoon. Her nervous system was failing but the team of doctors revived her and managed to keep her alive," said Rakesh Malik, her daughter-in-law.
"She is very critical. But then we do not want to take her to any other hospital as she is being looked after by an expert team of doctors here," she said.
While the family is claiming that Raj Bala's condition is on a downswing, doctors at G.B. Pant Hospital are maintaining that her condition is stable.
"The patient is conscious quadriplegic obeying to simple verbal commands at present. Her neurological status remains unchanged. Vital parameters stable on medication. She is stable on ventilator support," the hospital said in a statement from the medical superintendent's office.
Rendered quadriplegic after the assault, Raj Bala was operated upon on her neck on Sunday.
While the doctors at the hospital have managed to fix her neck, they are not sure if she will manage to gain strength in her limbs after the police crackdown.
