Chaos and confusion were the order of the day at the Inderlok Metro station when the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) sealed the Parsvnath mall on Tuesday.
According to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the entry and exit points to the station got clogged because the sealing squad, police personnel and commuters had converged at a single point.
“Employees of most of the shops in the mall gathered outside, leading to chaos. Though the Metro service was not affected, commuters faced problems in making their way out,” said a senior DMRC official.
The mall has been constructed inside the Inderlok Metro station and has been given by DMRC on lease.
The sealing drive started around 9.30 am — a time when the Metro rush is at its peak. Seeing the police personnel, the workers at the malls initially thought there was a bomb scare.
“I thought there was a bomb in the mall because of which it was being evacuated. But then we got to know that sealing action was being taken by the MCD,” said Rashi Sharma, a commuter.
The workers at the mall were unhappy with the sealing drive. “If the mall has come up illegally why did they wait for six long years to take action? They should have done it earlier,” said a Big Bazaar salesman.
The sealing action continued till 3 pm on Tuesday. The civic agency sealed a total of seven properties. The civic agency claimed that prior information was provided to the mall owner.
