Admirers of Mirza Ghalib will now be able to see replicas of objects associated with him and listen to his poetry in his haveli.
A permanent exhibition of replicas of Ghalib's rare personal effects and soundtracks of his works was inaugurated by chief minister Sheila Dikshit at Ghalib's haveli on Tuesday to mark the birth anniversary of the 19th century poet. A candle light march was also held from the main road at Chandni Chowk to Ballimaran, where the haveli is located. Poet, author and lyricist, Gulzar and author Pavan K Verma were also present at the event.
"We have been trying to highlight and bring in focus the life of Mirza Ghalib for quite some time now. This is a step in that direction," Dikshit said.
The inauguration will be followed by a play 'Ghalib in New Delhi' to be staged at the India Islamic Centre on Wednesday.
"When one visits England and sees the way Shakespeare's house has been restored, one realises that there is a need to do something like that for Ghalib as well," said Gulzar.
Apart from the replicas, poems and ghazals written by Ghalib will also be played in the haveli from 11 am to 6 pm every day.
